The person who took the picture thought it was a robin…but I don't think so….I think he's more like a wren or a finch…..so round !!
There was a family of birds in my back yard most of the day today. Two parents and four or five babies. The parents were feeding the babies and trying to teach them how to hunt bugs. They were all so cute. I'm not sure what kind of birds they were. They were shaped like wrens, but the adults had black heads and kind of cream colored breasts, and all of them bobbed their tails up and down like wrens do. The babies were all kind of grayish. I've never seen these kind of birds before, but we have had the wierdest Spring in St. Louis, so they may not normally nest here.

Cute picture and caption, as always!!!

  12. I KNEW it! (I think the file name should say tattletail instead. Hehe)

  13. LBeeeze says:

Thank you !! Glad you enjoyed it !!

  14. LBeeeze says:

Here's a fun website, LBeeeze–let's see what we can find out!

  16. jaypo says:

I don't know where you are or anything so I can't come up with much. Do a search and let us know what you find! I think it's a kind of vireo.

  17. LBeeeze says:

Thanks so much for the link….I have to get ready to go somewhere, but I will definitely come back later and see what I can find. Thanks again !!

  18. LBeeeze says:

Thanks. I'm in the St. Louis, MO area. We have a wide variety of birds here because the confulence of the Mississippi and the Missouri Rivers attracts a lot of migratory birds. I absolutely LOVE the Great Blue Herons that hang out all Spring and Summer. Take care and have a wondeful day !!!

  19. Hehe, yay! Thank you, Genie LBeeeze!

  20. LBeeeze says:

    But of course !!

  21. LBeeeze says:

The parents and baby birds I saw yesterday are dark-eyed juncos, but NOT the kind that are here in the Winter. The ones I saw yesterday are Oregon juncos. They are normally only seen in the Western part of the US. While I was watching them yesterday I kept thinking they looked just like the slate gray dark-eyed juncos I see in the Winter, except for their color. These were colored very similarly to sparrows, except for the black hoods on the adults. I wonder what brought this family so far east.

  22. jaypo says:

I tried to find this on the What Bird website. I think it's a type of immature or female vireo but had no luck with id'ing it. It's not a junco beak. I'm very curious about this little mystery fellow.

  23. LBeeeze says:

You're talking about the bird in the photo above….that one I haven't tried to find yet. It's so unfamiliar to me that I was afraid I'd get lost for hours if I tried to identify it. It definitly doesn't have a junco beak, but now you got me in deep….I'm going to have to try to find out now.

  24. jaypo says:

It's so unfamiliar to me that I was afraid I'd get lost for hours if I tried to identify it. Haha!! I already did that.

  25. LBeeeze says:

Hahahahahaha…..I had to go to my mother-in-law's yesterday and couldn't take the time to look then, but I searched online quite awhile late last night and again this morning, but couldn't find a bird that looks exactly like this one. I think you're right about it being a vireo…the eye, beak, and legs look like the viero pictures I saw, but I couldn't find any that had an orange breast. The closest I came was a yellow-throated vireo. I can't stand it when I can't figure something out !!

  26. jaypo says:

I bet maya would know! Do you know maya? She's wonderful!! A kindred spirit. I'm going to ask her.

  27. LBeeeze says:

No, I don't know Maya….but she sounds like someone I'd very much like to know.

  28. jaypo says:

Here's her vox. I know you'll like her very much!

  29. LBeeeze says:

Thank you so much !! I was hoping you would give me a link !!

  30. jaypo says:

btw, she's not sure, but thinks it may be a baby Eastern bluebird. After googling images, it's probably a young female. Scroll down and you'll see a female with a big buggie in her mouth.

  31. LBeeeze says:

Ah-Ha !!! I saw it !! You can definitely see the orange, and one of the pictures on the page showed some spots too. Thanks !!! Those were some happy bluebirds.

  32. jaypo says:

Wheee! Now we can sleep tonight. 🙂

  33. LBeeeze says:

For sure !! I hate it when I can't figure something out….Thanks for all the hard work !!
